Suggestions (Teacher's Notes):
Copy a section and substitute different characters and/or objects. Eg a kookaburra (kurng kurng) could be flying towards a gum tree 'payikang piyalka'. Change character names 'Nyakili Mary. Kurng-kurng payikang piyalka.' Act out the story. Make a list of phrases and use them for a week then draw cartoons or paint pictures. Make a song with the phrases 'Nyarninyangurr wemba, Nyarninyangurr wemba, Nyawi pirniny perrpuk.' (No worries, No worries, the sun will rise tomorrow.) Add some more lines from the story. Enjoy the 'yalang-yalang' word with the class. Is there a 'smart' equivalent?
