Literal meaning - leaf or plant having numbing properties, from: 'kira' - leaf, 'kumba' - sleep, and 'wil' - having suffix. Water Pepper or Smart Weed grows in shallow water and has a hot peppery taste. It is used for numbing fish, numbing a tooth ache and when chewed numbs the lips and mouth. (Editor: Word did not appear in the WembaWemba Dictionary and was derived in 2017 in response to a request for the language name for the plant.)
